Testimonies and Gratitudes

A note from a family served at Sparrow House...

an encouraging post...

just some reminders of why our mission is important to our community!

Some notes...

Most of the individuals and families we serve at Sparrow House, have no clue how much we love them and how they impact us.   We have lost many over the years- and although this is a tribute to Peggy- it really is about each one.

The first time we met Peggy, she came riding up on her bicycle as we were unloading the pantry truck.  She was smoking a cigarette and seemed a little "rough around the edges".  She wanted to know how to get food and when, and as we were visiting with her, Joel mentioned to her that it was a non-smoking property.  She was a little gruff about it, but she put her cigarette out and then stayed and visited for a little bit.  She came to the pantry pretty much every Thursday after that to get a box of food and visit.

One day she said, "Can you make sure I don't get no milk, no meat, and no bread? But I do like sweets if you got any! Oh and pears- I love pears."  So from then on, we tried to make sure Peggy had sweets and pears in her box.

We saw Peggy for the Thanksgiving distribution and she passed away a few days later.  We are sad that we never got a picture with her, and she will never know how much she impacted all of us.

We still expect her to walk through the door and we miss her.

One time she mentioned that she liked to come to Sparrow House for the interaction with all of us- other clients and volunteers.

We hope she always left feeling better - with a hug, some care, and some pears...

and maybe something sweet!

"Little children (believers, dear ones),

let us not love [merely in theory]

with word or with tongue

[giving lip service to compassion],

but in action and in truth

[in practice and in sincerity,

because practical acts of love

are more than words]."
