"because every person is valuable"
August 2020
A fully stocked shopping room makes us happy!
September 2020
After a long day at Sparrow House, this note was found sticking on the outside of the door. Something so simple- yet makes all the difference!
April 2020
James- a long time volunteer right before he left for the Army.
October 2020
Joel Jacoby, Director, (far right) with a great group of volunteers from Advantage Treatment Center.
Bringing in a load of turkeys for Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving 2020
Covid-19 did not shut the pantry down - we only had to adapt to how we served. This shows people waiting in line outside, while volunteers inside pack their boxes according to family size. Two volunteers stand near the door to help clients carry boxes to their cars if they need help.
What does it take to get a much need gigantic refrigerator into the pantry?
Group effort = success!!
(no humans were injured during this process! ha!)
June 2021
Sparrow House was blessed with the donation of a generator to keep the pantry facility operating in the case of power outages. Thankful to TBK Bank for the generator and this great crew from ElectraPro's for installation!
November 2021
Students from Alta Vista Charter School
giving food donations for neighbors!
December 2021
Students from the Rotary Interact Club come to serve at the pantry with big hearts and smiles!
January 2022
Inventory can be dreadful at the pantry -
but these are just a few of the awesome young people and coaches that made it happen easily- with lots of smiles and laughter! Thank you Lamar Community College women's volleyball and basketball teams!
April 2022
An amazing little group of GIrl Scouts came to serve at the pantry and also made us birthday bags to give to kiddos that come in when it's their birthday!
What a blessing!
May 2022
Thankful for the Lamar Elks for supporting the pantry with food and monetary donations that will help ease the burden of supply chain issues!
June 2022
A little fun on the mobile pantry while waiting for clients! Jeremiah had the great idea to push Joel in the cart!
Good laughs!
November 2022
A lot of work goes into inspecting and sorting foods that come into the pantry. Following USDA guidelines on quality and expired foods can be tricky! Brenda sorts the majority of the food that comes into Sparrow House - even to the extent of having to climb into big boxes ha!
We sure appreciate her!!
Sparrow House really depends on donated foods and are so grateful that Alta Vista Charter School Student Council does a food drive for us every year! This time they filled the trailer!
Thank you!!
All smiles as Eric and Khloe take the pantry truck to Pueblo to pick up turkeys and other foods for Thanksgiving distribution!
Thanksgiving 2022~
We had to get a shot from the security camera to get all the volunteers in the picture- it's not very clear and we still missed getting some! But we so much enjoy the group effort of the community to come together to serve others for Thanksgiving!
2023
Every year it is an honor to be supported by the Elks of Lamar! Pictured members are left to right Jared Crabtree and Jeremy Baca. Also pictured are volunteers Joel and Veronica Jacoby and Piper Reitz.
When others believe in our mission
enough to fundraise for us,
it is humbling!
This group, Punishers LEMC,
did a motorcycle run for the pantry
and helped bring support
to impact food insecurity!
VOLUNTEERS ARE THE BEST!!
JUST A FEW OF THE MANY VOLUNTEERS THAT ARE A TREMENDOUS BLESSING!! Some are not so eager to be in a photo!
Left to right: Leslie Conrad, Veronica Jacoby, (hiding behind Veronica is Alton), Ethan Valdez (hiding behind Ethan is Brenda and Amparo), Tom Crane, Michelle Crane, little Penelope, Karen Voepel, Shahin Taraghi, Jared Crabtree, and Eric Munoz.
fresh tomatoes in the hands of a child...priceless!
Volunteer, Brenda, showing some guests the pantry during an Open House. Most guests have no idea the size and scope of Sparrow House until they come experience for themselves!
Alta Vista Charter School Student Council held their annual food drive for Sparrow House and loaded down our truck! How encouraging it was to witness their kindness!
Thanksgiving 2023
With inflation this year, came an increase in demand.
Sparrow House really did not think we would be able to give any special foods for Thanksgiving but in the end we gave turkeys and a lot of additional foods!
On this day, the lines were long, but the help was
plentiful! The community always comes through to make sure the labor isn't an issue!
What a great time of year to be extra grateful!
2024 ~ the tenth year!
End of the year food drives and donations helped Sparrow House start the new year out strong! And with the beginning of the year always comes the dreaded inventory.
But volunteers did such a great job and in the process things also got cleaned and organized! How nice!
Front page of the local
newspaper! It was an
honor to host this group at
Sparrow House and also
to receive their contribution!
Since Sparrow House opened in 2014, the Venture Crew has been coming to help out in any way they can! This night they came to help stock the shelves and bag dogfood and catfood. It has been an honor to watch these youth grow up - some have moved on, some are about to graduate, while others are now leaders. We are thankful for each one of you!
A gathering time of the most amazing volunteers
ever made!
